Geometric patterns

 I have recently been inspired by geometric patterns, particularly how they are repetitive, lively, fun and  modern. I have used patterns in and around me. Some examples are shown above on the right.  Above left and middle as well as right are sections of my final digital prints. The patterns I have used here are inspired by wires, a plumber wheel, a pen, Sellotape, scissors, a wheel and a circle pattern from a mug. Some of my designs have also been influenced by diamonds.

Final pieces for fashion

Digitally printed final pieces : card piece first, then flower piece above ,mouse piece then owl piece below. All designs were produced in photoshop by scanning in sketchbook pages and developing them there.   My favourite piece is the flower one above as it uses knit as well as print.

2nd year fashion

At the beginning of my second year for 5 weeks, I looked at the theme of Pop-Clash where I looked at some kitsch stuff and put several different objects together to draw from. These pictures are some of my drawings inspired by Audrey Flack's work. My final pieces were developed from these drawings of a mouse, playing cards and a rose.

Gift project

At the end of my 1st year we had a gift project. I based this on birds.

For this project I used Photoshop to develop my scans of some of my sketchbook pages. Quite a few different drawings were used in my clock piece.Where I used 12 different birds I had either machine stitched, French knotted, used oil pastels, wove, drawn or watercoloured.




I also used one of my birds in the card design below for this project as well. I'm sure you can work out which one!

My favourites from 1st year

In my 1st year of university doing textile design I created several different pieces; some of my favourites include my cushion, a scarf, a ruffled top, and a textured skirt.

For my project, that ended around Christmas 2011, I looked at leaves.


This picture shows the printed side of my cushion using screen print, foil, hand and machine stitching.

The back of my cushion was knitted and then attached using hand stitching.

  

During March 2012 for my knit project, I created a striped scarf (pictured opposite). I love this piece and still use it today!

Even though it is quite a simple design it took quite a long time to make, as I had to count the amount of lines for each stripe.

The two pictures below this one are of a ruffled top which uses hooking up techniques and a textured skirt where I have plaited the knit and added twisted material. Both of these were also created in March 2012.
